Salt Lake City Announced as Site for 2002 USA Junior Olympic Girls'
Volleyball Championships

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO - Thursday, October 25, 2001 - Mike Chandler,
Managing Director, Events for USA Volleyball announced today that the
2002 USA Junior Olympic Girls' Volleyball Championships will be
returning again next year to the South Towne Exposition Center (Sandy
City, Utah), located outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. At the 2001
championships 572 teams participated in the course of the 12 days of the
tournament. During qualifying for the championships there were over
1500 girls' teams vying to meet the event's criteria.

In making the announcement Chandler said, "We are excited to be able to
return to Salt Lake City and the South Towne Exposition Center for the
2002 championships. The 2001 event was a tremendous success due to the
great support received from the local organizing committee and the
community."

This tournament attracts a large number of college coaches who scout the
players for possible recruitment to their volleyball programs. This
past summer over 350 coaches, representing some 250 colleges and
universities nationwide, attended the championships.

A team roster, along with applicable entry fees and results are due no
later than April 24, 2002. Entry materials from clubs to the USAV
Events Department must be submitted through the appropriate
region/member organization.

The Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships is open to both boys and
girls at the junior and senior high school grades. USA Volleyball
boasts a junior age membership totaling over 100,000.

The actual dates for the competition are scheduled for release on
October 31.

More detailed advisories concerning this competition will be posted at
the USA Volleyball website as they become available.

USA Volleyball is the National Governing Body for the sport of
Volleyball in the United States and as such is recognized by the United
States Olympic Committee and the FIVB (Federation Internationale de
Volleyball) as the organization primarily responsible for increasing
participation and awareness of the sport of Volleyball in the United
States. USA Volleyball's efforts are aided by the many member
organizations with which it is affiliated, such as 39 Regional
Volleyball Associations, the Amateur Athletic Union, NCAA, YMCA,
National Federation of State High Schools Associations, the American
Volleyball Coaches Association and the United State Youth Volleyball
League.
